NATURAL FIBRES
Natural Fibres is a collaboration between TANCHEN Studio and STUDIO MONANA, a research-driven design practice based in Shanghai. An iteration of MONANA’s ongoing cooperation with craftswomen in rural China, the Natural Fibres collection features hand-stitched plushes in the form of fruits and vegetables beloved across Asia.
Though scentless, these pieces are made with the same folk craft techniques used to create 香包 xiāngbāo: fragrant herbal sachets popular throughout ancient China, tied at the waist or onto buttons. In the same spirit, each plush is attached to a chain of glossy wooden beads and contrasting cord that can be looped around a bag, a belt, or a phone. Repurposed from rustic fabrics leftover from the 1960s and 1970s, the scrappy, squishable shapes in this collection have traveled through time and space to get here.
They’re ready to be taken on their next adventure – no refrigeration required.
